Raiders
of the Lost Carts features the Atari Games that never were.
Great titles from Golden Girls to Twin Peaks, to games about Yuppies
and Napoleon Dynamite. Raiders was first placed up on the
original incarnation of Atari 7800.com in November of 2000 to rave
reviews, however the page and related files were accidently lost
during a transition that involved the domain changing hands and
an overhaul of the entire site. Fortunately I was able to save this
page from the scrap heap when I moved my webpage to be hosted here
at Atari 7800.com.
The
following are cartridges made just for fun. Most none of these ever
actually existed and likely never will. But don't let that stop
you from using your imagination. Some are humorous, some are serious,
and some might actually make some great games! I hope you enjoy.
- Joe

This
cartridge label design is based off of the hit cult classic "Parker
Lewis Can't Lose" which ran on the FOX Network from 1990 through
1993. Those who remember the show are familiar with the quirky nature
of the show which was not-so-loosely based on the film "Ferris
Bueller's Day Off" and featured several incredibly imaginitiave
and surreal elements such as fantasy scenes, strange camera angles
and the lack of a laugh track. The show felt much like a live-action
cartoon. Although "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" only lasted
three seasons on FOX, it broke new ground in Television and made way
for future creative hits such as Ally McBeal and Arrested Development.
It should also be noted that this particular television show featured
an extensive list of Atari products that were shown on screen. Visit
"Parker Lewis Can't Lose" on imdb.com

Yuppie
Yuppie
is actually one of the few cartridges on this page that was actually
a real project at one point. We began work in 2002 on a simple game
for the Atari 2600 that was loosely based on the life of a Yuppie.
There were to be seven mazes, one per day, per screen. But be careful
not to spill your coffee! You would have to maneuver the Yuppie to
certain points within the maze before the clock ran out, deeming you
to be "late to work" etc. One location might be "Starbucks"
and the next may be the Dry Cleaners. You could collect bonuses along
the way. Unfortunately the game was never completed and the programmer
is no longer with us. Any
parties interested in continuing work on the Yuppie project are invited
to contact us.
Chris
Rock's: White People Crazy!
Join
Chris Rock in this delightfully funny video game that brings the spirit
of PC Engine's "Kato & Ken" to the Atari 7800. Based
on the comedy stylings of legendary comedian Chris Rock, this game
is all about silly things that white people do that are different
from blacks. Fun for the whole family!
Video
Killed The Video Star
Not
a lot is known about this particular 2600 game other than being based
off of the 1980 hit from The Buggles, although it does somehow seem
quite fitting.
Devo

Atari
7800.com History - Limited Run
This is a nearly-complete graphic produced for a limited run of 100
cartridges that were produced by Atari 7800.com to commemorate the
site's Fifth Anniversary and celebrate Atari History.
In
this game, loosely based off of the BBC comedy hit "Fawlty Towers"
you manage a Motel 6 hotel not far off of the highway near Walt Disney
World. It is up to you to book the guests, manage room service, direct
housekeeping, and keep drug dealers and prostitutes out of the parking
lot.
School
Bus Nagin & The Chocolate City
In
the Crecent City, Mayor Ray "School Bus" Nagin lost everything.
His city was gone, and it was time to rebuild. But what to do? "I
dont care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are."
said ole' School Bus. Appearntly in the spirit of Willy Wonka, he
wishes to build a city made of the tastiest treat around - Chocolate.
"It's time for us to rebuild a New Orleans.. a 'Chocolate New
Orleans'.." proclaimed the dear leader. "This city
will be 'chocolate at the end of the day." Now, through
the vast power of the Atari 2600 and your own personal imagination,
YOU can help School Bus build his chocolate town. "This city
will be a majority African-American city. It's the way God wants it
to be." Can you help Mr. Nagin rebuild a New Orleans clean
of the undesirable races such as asians, caucasians, latinos, native
americans, middle easterners, and the jewish? The future is now in
the palm of your hands. Now you're playing with power! Chocolate power!

"She
was wrapped in plastic."
This
game is based off of the short-lived revolutionary television show
Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks was a dramatic television series set in the
fictional town of Twin Peaks in northeast Washington State. It aired
on from April 8, 1990 until June 10, 1991. Twin Peaks' central plot
line tells the story of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper and his investigation
into the shocking murder of a popular young local schoolgirl, Laura
Palmer. The program portrays small-town America via a tight-knit community
of unsophisticates and eccentrics. The story begins with the famous
discovery of Laura's body, washed up on the lakeshore, "wrapped
in plastic." As the investigation unfolds, it gradually exposes
each Twin Peaks resident to unwelcome scrutiny from Agent Cooper and
the men of the local Sheriff's Department and reveals a disturbing
dark side to the lives of many of the Twin Peaks citizens. The first
season contained only eight episodes and was considered technically
and artistically revolutionary for television at the time, working
hard as it did to reach the standards set by film. This critically-acclaimed
program was beyond revolutionary by 1990 standards and paved the way
for such programs as The X-Files and Desperate Housewives. Visit

"Damn
good coffee ... and hot!"
The
Golden Girls - Fight Against Breast Cancer
Help
raise awareness for the fight. Rose, Blanche and Sophia help Dorothy
(Bea Arthur) in her struggle against breast cancer. This is no laughing
matter, the Golden Girls are in a struggle for survival. With special
guest appearances by Charley Dietz (David Leisure) and Dr. Harry Weston
(Richard Mulligan) This game was produced in an extreemly limited
run for members of the
Atari Age Girly-Girl Club.
Join
the Pegs - Patty Greene, Lauren Hutchinson, Marshall Blechtman and
New-Waver Johnny Slash as they battle for the ultimate prize - popularity.
They want to run with the in-crowd at Weemawee High. Can you help
the Pegs get invited to Jennifer & LaDonna's party? Can you get
them in to see Devo at Muffy's Bat Mitzfah? Can you help get Marshall
and Johnny Slash out of detention with Principal Dingleman? It's Atari
2600 fun with "Square Pegs!"
But
who is the rapist? Could it be Kraus in the kitchen? Clayton Endicott
III in the press room? Frankie in the stable? Pete by the fire place?
Or could it be Governor Gatling in the Governor's Office? See if you
can find the culprit in this variant of "Clue".
While
on hiatus from his job on Seattle Radio, Frasier finds himself in
command of the U.S.S. Bozeman, a Soyuz-class Federation Starship.
Frasier must battle against the spacetime continuum in this journey
across time. Join Niles, Daphne, Martin, Roz, and the rest of the
Frasier cast as they boldly go where no Cheers spin-off has
gone before. You
can view a sample of this hit television show by clicking here!
Theo
& Cockroach Cram for a History Test
In
this 7800 game based on "The Cosby Show" you must join forces
with Theo and Cockroach to get through the week. Your primary goal
is to get through the five-day school week, surviving your quirky
family life so that you may also survive your History test on Friday.
In level three Dr. Huxtable forces Theo to return a $95 Gordon Gartrelle
designer shirt. Loopy Denise swears she can swe one just like it for
a fraction of the price, and, ofcourse, the result is hilariously
disastrous. When Denise suggests Theo tuck in the misshapen shirt
to improve its look, he insists, I"It's tucked into my socks!"
As Theo and Cockroach, you must survive both the week and the History
test. Pass your test with an A+ on Friday morning and you get to go
out to enjoy a nice Pepperoni Pizza with Cockroach and the gang before
having a blast all weekend long. Not to mention a pat on the back
and an "I'm proud of you, son" from Dr. Huxtable.

Television's
Maude (Bea Arthur) seizes command of "The Mod Squad" and
takes them (unwillingly) on a journey acrossed the lower 48 states
trying to preaching women's rights, spreading feminist propaganda
and indoctrinating others towards her liberal cause. Can you topple
the powers that be? Join Maude as she spreads the Anti-Archie gospel.
