CLIPS FROM SOME OF MY VARIOUS CELEBRITY INTERVIEWS!

fire walk with me
You
have reached the internet home of Atari Joe - the quirkiest classic
video gaming character around! This website serves as both home
to Atari Joe and the entire Atari Super-Gang, as well as a retrogaming
resource. This website is anything but conventional, but then again
so is Atari Joe. Here you will find accurate Atari information and
history mixed in with fun feature articles, edgy humor and a perspective
of life through the eyes of Atari Joe. We will strive to deliver
the richest retrogaming experience possible.
Atari
Joe has profound pride in his website and truly believes he has
the best Atari site online. Atari Joe launched his first Atari web
page in 1993 just as the internet was coming into acceptance. In
2001 Joe was personally invited to bring his web page and antics
to be hosted at Atari 7800.com and has been part of the family ever
since. Joe brings a deep perspective and personality unlike any
other. Atari Joe's other interests include 50's and 60's nostalgia,
classic and exotic cars, Coca-Cola collectables, Doo Wop music,
classic movies, sci-fi adventures, television, the circus, walking,
bicycling, and Chicken Pot Pie.

It
all began in 1972 with Nolan Bushnell's dream of “Innovative
Leisure” - creating electronic games harnessing a video
display as a play field. With help from friends Ted Dabney and
Larry Bryan, Bushnell took advantage of his amusement park experience
coupled with his agility in electronics and created a company
that would one day grow synonymous with video entertainment. The
introduction of Pong into the market soon blossomed into a slew
of new coin-ops that would introduce the world to the concept
of the video arcade. Bushnell was the head of the world's most
revolutionary start-up which would change the course of history
as we know it. Atari began producing Pong units for the home,
which quickly rose to success through Sears department stores.
In 1976 Gene N. Landrum, Ph.D. of the Atari Super-Gang joined
Nolan to launch Atari Home Consumer Division to begin work on
what would become the world’s first cartridge-driven video
game system – the Atari 2600. Landrum brought in his entire
team, foremost being Gene Lipkin, from National Semiconductor
where they were already underway on a game system. With a massive
influx of capital from Warner Communications, Atari was well on
the way to shaping the video game industry as we know it today.

Simply
put, the Atari 2600 Video Computer System is the quintessential
classic home gaming system that has won over the hearts of millions
upon millions of game players for thirty years. Introduced in
1977 as the first commercially successful cartridge-loaded video
game system, the Atari 2600 soared to success after bringing the
first “killer app” home to game players with the 1980
introduction of Space Invaders for the 2600. Atari Home Consumer
Division continued to support the Atari 2600 with classic hits
and arcade favorites throughout the 80’s with games like
Asteroids, Missile Command, Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Defender, Stargate,
Star Raiders, Yar’s Revenge, and Centipede. The 2600 saw
its share of infamous flops as well, the most famous of which
being E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Activision supported the 2600
along with other third-party companies, releasing games such as
Pitfall, River Raid and Chopper Command. The 2600 utilized peripherals
and controllers such as joysticks, paddles and keypads. Although
the 2600 remains one of the most ancient of systems, it also remains
one of the most charming. The 2600 is rich with simple games that
are fun for all ages such as Super Breakout and Warlords, games
that prove to be easy to learn yet difficult to master. This may
quite possibly be what has attracted so many to fall in love with
this quintessential classic.*System

Developed
to be the 2600’s successor to the Atari throne, the Atari
5200 SuperSystem was introduced in 1982 as the the next generation
in home gaming from Atari. Originally entitled "Atari Video
System X," the 5200 was engineered from existing Atari technology
borrowed from the 8-Bit computer line. The 5200 introduced a slew
of new concepts and ideas, many of which would revolutionize our
expectations of a game system. New functions first introduced
in the 5200 such as pause and quad controller ports have since
become industry standard, while other 5200 firsts like controller-mounted
reset and keypad buttons, and console-mounted joystick storage
bays never took root in gaming culture. The system was capable
of displaying sixteen colors out of a palate of 256 on screen
simultaneously through comparably-high resolution graphics. Some
fair criticism of the 5200 cites the cumbersome analog joystick
as the source of many MacGuffins and the lack of out-of-the-box
reverse compatibility with the existing line of 2600 software.
The 5200, designed by Super-Gang member “Silicon’
Regan Cheng, introduced the “Atari slab” product design
motif which would remain popular through the end of the decade.
Software for the 5200 was rich with ports from existing Atari
2600 and computer franchises, such as Missile Command, Centipede,
Pac-Man and Pole Position. *System photo blatantly stolen from

The
Atari 7800 ProSystem was first introduced in 1984 as the next
big leap in home video games, and is considered by many to be
the true successor to the 2600. The Atari 7800 was the culmination
of a vast amount of R&D, as early in 1983 Atari surveyed consumers
to find out what they wanted in a game system. More importantly,
Atari listened. The result was a new determination on part of
Atari to deliver a powerful yet simple game system that could
produce arcade-quality graphics, be easy to use with sleek, responsive
controllers free of any excessive clutter of unnecessary buttons,
and would offer out of the box reverse-compatibility with the
existing line of Atari 2600 software, all to be packaged within
a sleek compact design. From this knowledge came the Atari 7800
providing a big punch in a little package, released to the market
with two sleek ProLine joysticks that were backwards-compatible
with the 2600, and the formula racer Pole Position II which performed
its function of demonstrating the 7800’s bright colors and
capabilities quite well. The software lineup for the Atari 7800
was rather thin when compared to its main competitor of the time,
however it did offer a potent list of arcade classics in true-to-arcade
quality graphics, color and sound, such as Centipede, Asteroids,
Galaga, Dig Dug, Ms. Pac-Man, and the popular Food Fight among
others. The 7800 also featured a small line of extremely quirky
games that went well past the cusp of creativity with games such
as Midnight Mutants and Ninja Golf. A high score cartridge and
computer component had also been designed for release with the
system, adding a game save option and full computer capabilities
to the already powerful system. The 7800 also served up the entire
2600 library of games as the system was reverse-compatible with
its predecessor. The Atari 7800 was more than a mere game system,
it was a window into the dream world of Atari. *System photo blatantly

The
Atari Lynx Color Portable Video Game System was Atari's entry
into the handheld gaming market. The first portable game system
ever, the Atari Lynx boasted a powerful 16-Bit graphics chip capable
of producing a palate of 4,096 colors on a large full-color backlit
LCD display. Lynx boasted unique features such as "Lynx Flip
Mode" which enabled the screen and controls to be rotated
a full 180* degrees to allow for left handed gamers to play with
greater ease, and its "Com-Lynx" connection making 8-player
games and portable co-op action a reality. The Lynx is also known
for its unique "Game Cards," miniature game cartridges
of thin wafers about half the size of a credit card. The Lynx
was popular for many of its great titles, including Roadblasters,
S.T.U.N. Runner, Blue Lightning, Xybots, and not the least of
which, California Games. The Lynx met with moderate sales success
in the retail market, which continued into the 1994 holiday season.

In
1991 Atari was set to unleash their second kitten, aptly titled
Panther. Panther was to be Atari's entry into the 16-Bit home
console market to compete against Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis,
and TurboGrafx-16. However at the last minute, Atari decided to
quantum leap past the 16-Bit era and set coordinates for the 64-Bit
galaxy. Working with partners Flare II and IBM, Atari introduced
the Atari Jaguar in November of 1994 as the world's first 64-Bit
home video game system. The Jaguar became a niche-market system
not unlike its counterpart 3DO, as the Jaguar arrived quite late
to the 16-Bit party but three years too early for that of the
64-Bit era. The Jaguar was the recipient of vast amounts of criticism,
some for its lack of games and others who debated the 64-Bit nature
of the Jaguar. However, the system provided a handful of stellar
titles including Alien vs. Predator, Cybermorph, Atari Karts and
Tempest 2000. This marked the first commercial release of the
Atari Coin-Op smash-hit Tempest on any Atari home system. A CD-Rom
peripheral was released in 1995 boosting the power and capabilities
of the Jaguar. *System photo blatantly stolen from AtariAge.com

Greetings!
My name is Atari Joe and I am very excited about video games. This
is my website and I created it to help promote awareness about Atari
systems and to let you get to know me a little bit better. As I
mentioned, my name is Atari Joe Rivera and I serve as Captain of
the Atari Super-Gang. I know all there is to know about Atari. I
have an extensive background in Atari History journeying into all
aspects of video game and computer markets. I also serve as Super-Gang
Commandant and am our Resident Atari 2600 Specialist and Liaison
to the Admirals. I have a big collection of classic games including
a sizeable Atari and NES collection in addition to Pong, 2600, 5200,
7800, Lynx, Jaguar, Flashback, Coin-Op and Computer systems. I even
have an autographed 7800 signed by Nolan Bushnell and a boxed Ms.
Pac-Man signed by 2600 pioneer Gene Landrum.
-
I
know all there is to know about the Atari. Nobody knows
more than me.
-
I
am a world class celebrity. I am what I am.
-
I
am a raving heterosexual.
-
I
am captain of the Atari Super Gang.
-
My
favorite Atari games include Circuits Atari, Super Breakout,
Tempest, Pole Position, Pac-Man, Asteroids, Mrs. Donkey Kong,
and Mario Bros.
-
I
have appeared on Sesame Street talking to kids
about computers. I got to meet Big Bird and
Snofolofogous and all them guys. Grover is
my favorite. The children sat around and I told them the story
of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Nolan Bushnell and how computers
are the wave of the future. I taught kids how to use them and
how computers can be used to solve mysteries like in the Bloodhound
Gang at the end of 321 Contact.
-
One
of my favorite new systems is the Atari Flashback and Flashback
2. I am very excited for Curt Vendel to work with Atari to make
Flashback 3. I am "on the scene" of what's happening
in Atari Flashback news.
-
I
really like the Flashback 2 because it has some of my favorite
homebrew games on there from Mr.
Dennis Debro,
my favorite homebrewer who was responsible for programming
Climber 5. My other favorite is XYPE. Mr. Debro is very talented.
-
My
favorite Atari web sites are Atari7800.com,
AtariAge,
Atari Historical
Society. I still visit them every day and love to interact
with the Atari community. That is why I started the Super-Gang.
-
My
favorite shows are My Classic Car, Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine, Icons, Car Crazy, Beverly Hillbillies, Happy
Days, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Old Batman, Lifestyles of the
Rich and Famous, Strangers With Candy, Dr.
Katz, Dog The Bounty Hunter, and anything with
Mr. T.
-
I
also like game shows, especially the kind that use wheels. Match
Game '74 is one of my absolute favorites with Gene Rayburn,
Brett Somers, and Charles Nelson Reilly.
-
Charles
Nelson Reilly, or CNR as I call him, is my favorite professional
game show professional contestant, stage actor, and gay personality
along with Bea Arthur.
-
I
am a master of Feng Shui. I always like to rearrange the furniture
in my house every other week or two so that I am more comfortable.
-
-
My
best friends on line are Justin, Corinne, Stan Junior, Bratwerst,
Moycon, and all my other AtariAge friends.
-
Scrambled
eggs all over my face, what IS a boy to do?
-
I
like the good ole days of the 50s and 60s with rock & roll
and doo-wop.
-
My
dream one day is to apply to Starfleet Academy and maybe join
Red Squadron. Once I get my GED I will apply and maybe work
at the San Francisco ship yards and maybe even transfer up to
Utopia Planitia when I graduate.
-
I
like muscle cars... and I mean LOUD muscle
cars.
-
If
Meg Griffin weren't a cartoon she would be my dream woman. And
I would make sweet passionate love to her beneath the stars.
-
For
the longest time my Uncle Gary lived with me at my fabulous
estate in South Florida. For almost ten years my mom let
him live with me with free room and board as long as he kept
after me. Well in spring 2006 Uncle Gary broke his hip and mom
sent him to the old people's home because he was of no use to
her because he's to old to look after me. Now, my Aunt Vonnie
moved in and looks after me. She is very nice and I like her
a lot.
-
I
work as a bagger at Publix and its my pleasure to serve.
-
I
pulled that little girl out of that well that one time when
she fell in, that was me. I made a harness out of four 2600
joystick cables and pulled her out. That was the first time
I saved the day but certainly not the last.
-
I
have a neighbor named Carl. He likes to barbecue and makes some
really good spare ribs. Uncle Gary and I go over there a lot.
for dinner and to swim.
-
I
call Uncle Gary "Unc" for short.
-
When
Unc still lived with me he used to do ebay all the time. He
always wanted me to go on my ebay too and bid against his stuff
so he would get more money. That's when we would go shelling
or whatever. He made a lot of money that way but I never won
any of my auctions. I suppose if I did he could have saved on
shipping by just giving it to me instead of mailing it to my
room.
-
Unc
used to take us back out to his special tool shed and
give it to us and then we would just walk it off
like mom told us to.
-
Unc
doesn't like foreign people or ethnics. He says they are a drain
on the economy.
-
I
don't like racists. White Power Bill once asked me to join his
White Power Club but I said no. One reason is because I already
have the Atari Super-Gang and don't want to join any other social
clubs. Another reason is because I am part Spanish and half
Israeli, so his White Power Club would probably want
to clobber me two times instead of one. That and I don't care
for honkeys.
-
I
always liked those episodes of Saved By The Bell where
they'd mix things up by having Kelly and Zack break up at the
same time as Jessi and Slater, and then have them switch dates.
Kelly would date Slater and Jessi would date Zack, one of them
would kiss the other and the audience would ooooooo as if it
was a big deal. By the end of the show everything would go back
to normal and the whole time poor Lisa would have been stuck
with Screech.
-
I
like to drink Canada Dry ginger ale because I'm not allowed
to drink liquor.
-
My
girlfriends call me "SLOPPY SECONDS."
-
I
don't take jibbar jabbar from anyone. I'll put you up against
the wall and say hey look I am a celebrity you don't talk
to a celebrity like that.
-
I
am very verbal. I like to talk, and ALOT.
-
All
of your games are belong to me.
-
If
you don't get me that's your problem, not mine. If you don't
know how to have a sense of humor about life and you have some
problem with me because I have silly pictures and play old video
games and know more than you do or whatever else, then you can
just kiss it.

The
Atari Super-Gang is the world's premier Atari user group that
goes far beyond playing video games. They are an elite squadron
of electronic goodness, a real force to be reckoned with. I started
the Atari Super-Gang in 1981 to defend the legacy of Atari and
spread video goodness across the land. We do volunteer work and
other things and remain active within our communities. The idea
is to continue the spirit of Atari onward into the future, as
more than just a user group but a force for truth, justice and
the American way. We operate much as a starship would, and I am
the Captain. The Atari Super-Gang can handle almost any task no
matter how large or small. We can provide technology solutions
faster than Kevin Mitnick, score more points than Billy Mitchell,
and solve a mystery faster than the gang from Scooby-Doo.
If
there's ever trouble, we're there on the double! We're the Atari
Super-Gang!

Site
Refit - I have made may major updates to my entire website.
We underwent our first site refit for the first time in five years
since I brought my site over from geocities to Atari 7800.com.
The main structure of the site is pretty much the same but we
now have many new graphics that are crisp and clean. We also have
new pages and a slew of new content. I hope you like the new site!
07-12-06
:
After
six years they're finally here! THE ALL-NEW RAIDERS
OF THE LOST CARTS! There are a whole bunch of new cartridges
on line. Great titles from Golden Girls to Twin Peaks, to games
about Yuppies and Napoleon Dynamite. Raiders was first
placed up on the original incarnation of Atari 7800.com in November
of 2000 to rave reviews, however the page and related files were
accidently lost during a transition that involved the domain changing
hands and an overhaul of the entire site. Fortunately I was able
to save this page from the scrap heap when I moved my webpage
to be hosted here at Atari 7800.com.Click the Golden Girls 7800
cartridge below to see more.

07-05-06
:
Hey
kids, back with some new picture updates! I added a lot of new
pictures to my photo gallery. There are new pictures from 4th
of July when everyone came down and pictures of me with my new
sandals. There are also all of the new pictures of me with the
Mercedes-Benz S500 sedan! You can see the pictures by
visiting my "Joes Glorious Photo Gallery" page or
by clicking on the picture below. I hope you like them. More updates
to come soon! (Can't wait to post all these new "Raiders
of the Lost Carts" pictures! I know you will like them a
lot.!)

07-03-06
:
Hey
everyone! It's me Joe here. It has been a really really long time
since I last updated my page like maybe three years now. I thought
after so long it was about time I get back on to my site and make
a few updates. I would also like to take this time to say hi to
all my friends and fans who I miss very much. I get lots of messages
and fan mail from all around the world asking me about my page
and what i'm going to do today. I would like to answer each and
every one but I have not had the time and i have not had the computer
that I used to so i don't get on very much. But hello to everybody!
I love you all! Everyone like Justin and Corinne and all my Gs
back at AtariAge.com!
My
new updates today are buttons at the top and some new links. My
web page here is made from a web template that Justin gave me
when he first started Atari7800.com about five years ago. He changed
his site since then to a whole new style a few years ago but I
never changed mine to the new style. So some of the links on this
page were bad and it looks more like the old Atari7800.com pages
than the new ones that are fancy and sleek. I had to change some
of the link buttons that no longer work right or go to web pages
that Justin no longer supports because the store closed in 2002.
You
will also see I made a new link to our new sister site TurboGrafx-16.com.
It's a really good page for TurboGrafx, Express, Duo, and Bonk
fans. You should go check it out.
I
started my very own MySpace.com page. I have over
1,000 friends and growing. If you like Atari, AND you like MySpace,
you should go there and add me as your friend.
I
put my new video up at the top of my page. The video is new but
its a clip show of my greatest hits and celebrity interviews,
so most of what's on the new video isn't new but is about four
years old. But its new and its up there and everyone says its
insanely great and funny. I hope you like it. It might take a
minute to load so you need to give it some time to load because
its a big movie.
In
my personal life things have been good but some things have changed.
My health was not good for the past year but now I am doing much
better. Also, my Uncle Gary had to move out. Unc fell and broke
his hip after Christmas time and my mom said he was now to old
to live with me and so she put him in the old peoples home. Now
my Aunt Vonnie has moved in with me. She is a lot younger than
Uncle Gary and she's a lot nicer too. My mom lets her live with
me for free and eat for free and not have to pay for anything
as long as she keeps after me and makes sure I eat my dinner and
go to work on time and stay out of mischief.
I
have some new pictures but I will have to load them later. It
was nice being back for a while I hope everything is good in all
of your lives too!
Love
always,
Joe

I start doing more updates to my web page I am working on the
raiders of the lost carts and I got lots of fabulous ideas for
new games. I have loaded 3 new interviews with me, Atari Joe,
that you can download if you want to they are in wav format and
are quick to download. You
can listen to them on my Media Downloads page.

This
is the first day I got my site all done and I got the Raiders
page started and everything looks good and stuff like that. I
just deleted my wonderful fabulous site that was the best ever
but ya know That's okay because Now I got this one. I also got
my first batch of fan mail today at this email. I get lots of
fan mail because I am world-famous.
